The Siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi during the Civil War resulted in a Union victory that cut the Confederacy in two. With both Vicksburg, “the Confederate Gibraltar” and Port Hudson on the Mississippi captured by Union forces, President Lincoln is quoted as saying, “The Father of Waters again goes unvexed to the sea.” Vikki’s presentation will include facts about the participation of Michigan troops in the siege and victory.
